Transport of patients to undergo a transplant

It often happens that the transplant Centre urgently calls a patient, who is in a waiting list, when the organ is made suddenly available. The patient might have problems for the transfer, due to the distance from the hospital and/or the lack of suitable transportation (nighttime or late schedules). On the contrary, it is most important that he reach as fast as possible the transplant location, to undergo all specific tests and necessary diagnostic checks as well as the preparation to the surgery, while the explant team is operating.

As per all other services, NOPC cooperates with transplant Centres or directly with the patients, to facilitate all the procedures and comply with the transfer in the fastest way possible.

NOPC will use own cars, fitted with lights and sound emergency devices, able to face all traffic conditions. Depending on the distance to cover, NOPC could exploit preferential channels to use airliners or special flights arranged by the Italian Air Force, in compliance with the set procedures (see also Rome Prefect's Office).
